fertile ROOTED LOVE project
RECONNECTING WHAT HAS ALWAYS BEEN ONE THROUGH AWARENESS AND ACTION
fertile ROOTED LOVE project
This is a project that intends to reunite humans and nature to raise awareness about the interconnectedness between species, communities, and spaces, and take action toward caring for them.

There is a vital connection between the deserts in Africa and the rainforests in South America, between walnuts and our brains, between the current health of the soil as the womb of all seeds and the way society treats womb-bearing people with its ban on abortions and poor birthing care, between society's crisis of care and how dangerous it is to be a nature defender/environmental activist, the chronic inflammation our bodies experience with various diseases like gastritis and eczema and the wildfires occurring all around the world. Drawing these sorts of connections may support us in becoming curious about how we relate to nature, returning to living in harmony with it, and rising together as beings who are part of nature rather than separate from it.
About the project
In the abstract, Fertile Rooted Love seeks to raise awareness about the bridges that connect us and Nature to improve our relationship to all of that which is Life-giving. One metaphor at a time, drawing connections between the human body and Nature's elements, the aim is to awaken a relationship with our natural environments and ensure that how we relate to Mother Earth is rooted in love, respect for ancient wisdom, and collective action.
To bridge theory and practice, Fertile Rooted Love Project manifests materially as a regenerative storytelling and community-building initiative that reconnects humans and nature through documentary film, artistic collaboration, and land-based economic healing.
Rooted in the fertile lands of Las Pampas, Ecuador, this pilot project seeks to document the lived realities of communities resisting extractive mining while creating pathways for regenerative forms of development led by local knowledge and youth.
The project centers the stories of land and water defenders impacted by state-backed mining violence, including families burdened by injuries sustained during protests defending territory and water sources.
At the same time, it creates space for artists, healers, and community members to collaborate across borders through film, photography, oral histories, and cultural exchange.
A core component of the pilot supports children and families in Las Pampas who carry ancestral knowledge of cultivating and producing hibiscus wine, a project which the children in the community learn to do in high school but cannot continue into their adulthood due to capital constraints. By strengthening this small-scale community craft as a dignified local economy, the project offers an alternative to extractive development models imposed without consent.
The long-term vision is to create a replicable model of regenerative cultural and economic resistance that can connect territories across the Global South, including future exchanges with other communities in Ecuador and in other parts of the world facing similar ecological, health, and economic pressures.
